This study will take an in depth look at swords. It will explore the topic and unravel its history in order to make sense of it. The study will include a brief history and origin of the sword as well as its uses in contemporary times. The different types of swords will also be looked at, how different cultures used it and the different connotations that are linked with it.

Swords are tools that people used as weapons from a very early point in history. Swords are made of steel, with a sharp point for thrusts and sharp blades along the sides for slicing motions. Swords were used for fighting in battles through the ages. They were used by knights, ninjas, samurai, pirates and the navy before the invention of gunpowder. Each of these groups of people had different looking swords to fit their period in time as well as their fighting styles. Nowadays swords are mostly used as decorative pieces in homes, as well as the sport of fencing. In some cultures they even have swords as family heir looms, passed down from generation to generation.
